What does the heart look like?

Why do we need blood to be pumped around the body?

The reason we need blood to be pumped around the body is that the purpose of your heart is to pump blood to the organs and tissues of your body that need the ingredients of what's in the blood, the oxygen and nutrients it carries, oxygen-rich blood is pumped out of the left side of your heart. The main veins are the deep veins which are in the muscle tissue, the Superficial veins are close to the skin surface and the Pulmonary veins are the veins which come from the lungs and their purpose is to put oxygen into the blood to then be shipped to the heart.

What is blood pressure?
Blood pressure measures how hard the blood is pushing against the walls of the arteries. Image result for what is blood pressure

Why does your pulse increase when you exercise?
The reason your pulse rate increases are because of your brain sending electric waves to the heart to make it pump more to the organs and tissue of the body so that the body can work harder and faster.

  1. Hi Benjamen,

This is a really interesting blog post about the heart and its job in keeping us alive! I had no idea that there was so many different types of veins in our bodies. I am curious to know how a change in blood pressure can affect people?
